If you were born between 1980 and 1986, and living in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in your younger years, chances are you've ridden Sandy at least once in your lifetime (and more likely, numerous times). Sandy was located in the entryway of Sunshine Foods, a supermarket located on the northwest corner of 41st Street & Louise Avenue. Her base says she was only a penny to ride, but if my fading memory serves me right, I'm pretty sure she charged a nickel. Her saddle was made of genuine leather. She was quite the powerful machine — she kicked with enough force to hurt your bottom if your body's rhythm with her was off. One memory that sticks with me was the bizarre floor vent that blew air conditioning up at me while I rode.

That particular Sunshine Foods was torn down several years ago, and a Barnes & Noble stands in its place. As of 2003, you may find Sandy in her retirement home — the entryway of Econo Foods on 10th Street & Kiwanis Avenue.
